In addition to the relevant sporting associations the club works closely with the City of York Council and is part of the council’s Sports Development Plan together with Schools and other organizations within the community.

The club is a registered charity run by a voluntary committee. We are constantly looking at ways in which to improve our facilities so if you think you have something to offer please contact our club secretary.

LATEST NEWS...

26/11/11

Following our AGM we are pleased to have some new volunteers in our committee and election of a new Chairman. Our next task is to create our events calendar for next year. As 2012 will see Britain host the biggest sporting event in the world - the Olympics - we are looking as a sports club to bring the Olympics to Elvington! If you have any suggestions please come along to our next meeting  on Tuesday 6th December 2011 at 8pm.

Following some great fundraising this year the LDSSC committee have gone ahead with plans to create extra lighting from the MUGA area onto the football pitch to allow training to continue on the grass after dark.

Also the path down to the MUGA from the Sports Club will be resurfaced hopefully in time for winter.

See our Events page for more details of up and coming social events.

Why not come along and have a look at our great facilities.

By becoming a member you will be entitled to join in the various social events at the club throughout the year as well as having access to the new clubhouse and its bar facilities during normal opening hours.

If you are unable to come down but would still like to join call Sue on 01904 608143 or 608398.

Lower Derwent Sports & Social Club is committed to providing sporting and recreational facilities for Elvington and the surrounding area.

As well as providing playing facilities for various sports such as football, cricket, netball and tennis for the local area, the club has an excellent clubhouse available for hire.

Our next long term goal is to expand the clubs playing areas due to the increased popularity of our football section. As you can see from the plan below we have now reached our capacity for any additional playing areas, so for any future development we will have to look beyond our current boundaries. This would be an immense investment for us and one which we would need financial help with from fundraising and sponsorship. If this is something you would be interested in as either a sponsor or fundraiser please get in touch.

First of all thank you to everyone for volunteering to help by being on the committee and in other ways as well. Also for all the hard work done last year. I know many of you put a lot of time and effort in to the club and other associated activities. Last year was a good one we gained some additional facilities and upgraded others so thanks to everyone for all their efforts.

Also I would just like to add particular thanks to Richard Hampshire for everything he has done for the club over many years more things than even I know about being fairly new to the club. From building the new clubhouse all those years ago to the many other jobs too numerous to count. I bet even he dare not add up all the hours he has spent down at the club dedicated to the community. I personally take my hat off to him for all he has done. I am sure I speak for everyone else not just on the committee but in Elvington itself in thanking him for all his hard work over the years. He will be a hard act to follow but someone has to try so I will do my best for you all and the club this coming year.
